Overview
cervAIcal is transforming the world of women’s health through innovative AI models. By enhancing access to early detection, cervAIcal aims to make hassle-free cervical cancer examination a reality. Their innovation, now undergoing trials with thousands of women across Latin America, Southeast Asia and India, has the potential to save the lives of millions.
cervAIcal is a next-gen mobile colposcope that is fully wireless and battery powered, enabling portability and easy access as a comprehensive women's health visual inspection toolkit. It can capture, annotate and share high-quality images of the cervix with reports within a unified app & cloud platform, enabling pre-screening in a just matter of minutes.
Although cervical cancer is one of the few cancers that can be eliminated, it is still a leading cause of mortality among women in developing countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 600,000 new cases and 342,000 deaths were recorded in 2020. Around nine in 10 of these deaths happened in low- and middle-income countries. The most important barrier in screening tests was that girls and women did not want to be tested - because they were asymptomatic, too shy or embarrassed, or fearing cervical cancer being detected. Effective, accessible, and quick implementation of cervical cancer screening is pivotal to leading the change.
UE LifeSciences has been an award-winning women’s health company that is developing and scaling innovative solutions to fight common cancers globally, and their feature-rich cervAIcal aims to address this very concern. Partnering with Creo to build its strong tech foundation, all the software within this AI enabled ecosystem from mobile app to servers in the backend were shaped together. The earlier successful iBreastExam framework, with highly scalable architecture and driving faster load times, is used for seamless workflow and shareable reporting. This approach ensures that the model is adoptable, scalable, and delivers significant value within a variety of environments and contexts.
cervAIcal is a gamechanger compared to conventional approaches like Pap smears. Its 16x magnification for auto focused imagery in enhanced uniform illumination is equipping everyone from hospitals to NGOs to visualize and diagnose the condition better. Being easy to use and pain-free for patients, coupled with the ease of continuous remote quality assessment, the immense potential it holds for telemedicine is astounding.
Today, cervAIcal’s models are adept at screening, optimizing women’s healthcare processes to the patient diagnosis pathway. A proud winner of the Pfizer Foundation IG Global Health Award in 2019, their work continues to significantly enhance access to information and healthcare services, propelling health equity for women everywhere.
